The Diocese of Northern California is committed to provide a harassment-free working environment. One of the best ways to help prevent sexual or other harassment is to educate and train those in our workplace. We provide online and live training sessions for those persons who have a pastoral leadership or other supervisory role in the church. General Convention Resolution A156 (2006) mandates that each diocese adopt policies to protect others from sexual harassment and exploitation through the development of education and training for:
- all clergy,
- lay employees,
who work with adults or who provide pastoral counseling, pastoral care, spiritual direction, administer sacraments, and those who supervise clergy or lay volunteers. Persons need to be re-trained every 5 years.
Such education should include
- what legally constitutes sexual harassment
- examples of appropriate and inappropriate behavior
